One of the tools I use in coaching is ย ย Stephen Covey'sย
Circle of Concern
Circle of Influence
Circle of Control
It can be particularly useful when clients are carrying burdens that aren't theirs to carry, or spending too much energy worrying about things they cannot change.
What matters to you, but is outside your control or influence.
What you may not control directly, but where your actions, voice or choices can make a difference.
What you can directly change, decide or take responsibility for.
Sometimes, we become so focused on what is happening outside our control that we neglect what is actually within our power.
The work isn't about becoming indifferent.
It's about becoming more intentional about where you place your energy.
Knowing the difference can help clients:
โก๏ธ create healthier boundaries
โก๏ธ let go of what they cannot influence
โก๏ธ stop carrying responsibility that isn't theirs
โก๏ธfocus on what they can influence, resolve or change
As a coach, I often help clients step back and ask
Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is stop trying to control what isn't ours and put our energy where it can actually make a difference.
